It's been an incredibly busy season for me thus far in 2016. Every weekend for the past seven, I've either been doing Art Shows / Festivals or traveling on photo shoots. I've not been in the water nearly as much as I'd like, but today I had a very good 'Day at the Office'. Spending some quality time in Puget Sound with Octopuses, Opalescent Nudibranchs, a Wolf eel, Painted Greenling and many other amazing underwater creatures is wonderful. The visibility was very good for this time of year, almost 30 feet. The plant life is blooming and the animals are everywhere. Remove the Dams on the Lower Snake RiverAnother very important item I am compelled to mention is the removal of the four dams on the lower Snake River. These old dams serve no purpose. Bonneville Power Admin. is continually delaying upgrades because not only are these dams completely obsolete, but they cost Washington State millions every year. During the annual spring snow melt and during the highest runoff period, these dams produce their most electricity. But Washington is awash in excess electricity, and BPA pays California to take our excess electricity.
Contact your elected officials and demand the removal of these dams. The removal cost is almost nothing in todays construction dollar. The result will be to hopefully save the very few remaining native salmon trying to return to spawn up river. In 2015 only 50 salmon returned to the lower Snake River! That is unacceptable. Within only a few years there may be no more original native salmon in the Snake River. Take a few minutes, make a phone call as I did and demand action to save the salmon, and help our endangered Orcas.
